Starting January 13, 2013, cities all around the world have begun the celebration of Eid-e-Milad. This festival is the celebration Hazrat Mohammed Paigambar Saheb birth – the last incarnation of Prophet Mohammad. This, like several other festivals, gastronomical delight is part and parcel. There are some delicious foods in the offering during this festivity.

The Mosques, Dargahas, and all Muslim households will be to ready celebrate it, with decorations, and the offering of prayers to brighten up their homes. Goodies such as samosas, kebabs, and kheer (rice pudding) are all part of the offering to Eid.  Also, during Eid a few dishes that come to mind in particular is biryani, steamed rice prepared slowly with spices and meats.  This dish is actually covered during preparation in order to preserve its flavor. Kheer (rice pudding), one of the essential offerings for Eid is basically a sweet milk dessert where rice, sugar, spices (cardamom), nuts and dried fruits are added. A special prayer is finished first, then all of these treats are served.

So, if you are in a South Asian country during the time of the festivities, you can always wonder around streets and come across a food stall, or a restaurant, that is offering one of these treats.  In celebration of Eid-e-Milad, Palki Restaurant will be cooking up extra servings of samosas, biryani and kheer – come try.
